Alaska Salmon Migration: The Gull Colony

In the Summer and Autumn, the rivers of Southeast Alaska are full of salmon diligently migrating upstream to their spawning beds in what is the most difficult journey of their lives. Just a few miles inland, in a calm stretch of this particular river, the salmon encounter a colony of gulls eager to feast on the weary fish. This recording captures the splashing of salmon in the shallow water as they navigate past the frenzied gulls.
